Cooler air, warm sweaters and the kiss of Jack Frost on your windowsill are all tell-tale signs that winter is just around the corner. As the last shimmering autumn leaves drift to the ground, here are five simple steps for a glowing skin care routine this winter.

1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Repeat after me: Hydrated skin is healthy skin. Using a combination of water and organic herbal teas, drink half of your body weight in ounces throughout the day. Herbs have been used for centuries to nourish, support, and tone our complex systems. Many of their constituents are easily recognized by our bodies, allowing for better absorption and innate use. Herbs like spearmint, peppermint, dandelion, nettle, and burdock are just some of nature’s skin boosting allies.
Mill District Tea’s USDA Organic Daily and Rhythm blends are full of mother nature’s goodness. Packed with natural bio-available vitamins and minerals, the nutritious herbs gently feed the skin on a deep cellular level.
2. Eat More Skin Boosting Foods
The saying “you are what you eat” holds true especially during the winter months. Not only does a nutrient-dense diet help your immune system, but specific foods help strengthen the skin barrier and prevent moisture loss and dryness. Consider adding more skin boosting foods to your diet, such as avocadoes, cucumber, cold-water fish (i.e. sardines, salmon, anchovies), ginger, berries, nuts, seeds, and dark leafy greens.
3. Moisturize Immediately After Washing
Did you know that the ideal time to moisturize your skin is when it’s slightly damp? After washing your face, depending on the humidity and temperature of the room, you have a 1–2-minute window before water evaporation begins to occur. Applying your moisturizer in a timely manner maximizes ingredients’ effectiveness by increasing product absorption, sealing in moisture, allowing for a deeper, longer-lasting hydration.

4. Apply Moisturizer Properly
A lot of people think moisturizers are just for the face, but that’s not true! Your neck and chest (aka your décolletage) need love too. The skin there is delicate and often one of the first places to show signs of aging, so don’t skip it. Every morning and night, apply your Noetage organic face cream generously to your face and décolletage using gentle upward and outward circular motions. This boosts circulation and helps your lymph nodes flush out toxins. Finally, use your fingertips to press the moisturizer into your skin with light, soothing pressure.
5. Humidify
Humidifiers add much-needed moisture back into the air which can be helpful when indoor heating is cranked up. A little extra humidity in the air helps your skin stay naturally balanced and elastic, reducing the chance of premature wrinkles. To keep your humidifier running smoothly and free of scale or mineral build-up, we recommend using distilled water. If you opt for tap water, give it a regular clean by filling and shaking it with white vinegar to remove bacteria and mineral deposits.
